Thames Tideway 30 Miler | 13th April 2019
information pack
After the success of the first 30 miler which took place in 2018, the Old Red Wall Club are taking on the challenge again in support of SNAP (Special Needs and Parents). This is an opportunity to see the river and the famous landmarks of London whilst raising money for a fantastic charity with great friends.
The walk will start in Surbiton but has been split into four phases. You can choose to do one, two, three, four or all phases of the walk. The more the merrier so please join as you please and pass on to friends and family!
You can register for the event here.
Phase One | 06.30am START
All walkers are to muster in the car park of the ‘Holiday Inn London Kingston South’ on 13th April 19. This hotel is ideally located for the Thames Path and for an early start. This walk follows the Thames Path which ensures easy navigation, safe routes and excellent views. This is a comfortable toe path which leads us on to the ‘tideway’ at Teddington and finally to Barnes.
The support team will follow the walkers and meet at designated places. The support team can take supplies so you do not have to carry much at all.
Phase Two | Approx. 11.00am start
Phase Two starts at Barnes Bridge Railway as there are excellent links to the City and well suited for a break. The walk will become noticeably less rural at the start of this phase as we continue toward the City. If you wish to join the walk here you can walk for as long or as little as you wish but it is 20 miles (approx.) to Greenwich.
phase three | approx. 03.30pm start
Blackfriars Road Bridge which will mark the march through East London and to the Royal Observatory Greenwich. If you wish to join the walk here you can walk for as long or as little as you wish but it is 10 miles (approx.) to Greenwich.
PHASE FOUR | APPROX. 07.00PM
The Gypsy Moth in Greenwich!
Key Timings
The aim is to complete the walk in the timings as shown in the ‘(Aim)’ column below. These timings will allow an approximate time for those joining the walk.
Preparations
It is imperative that training walks are undertaken for this walk. 30 miles is a great distance and needs to be taken seriously. Appropriate footwear and cold weather clothing should be prepared.
Support crews
It is intended to organise a support team who will be on hand to provide water stops, first aid equipment and general support. If you do not wish to walk but would like to volunteer your time, this would be welcomed.
Further information will follow once interest is registered. We hope you can join us on our adventure.
